Profile
Care: Easy
Origin: Singapore
Tank Size: 20L (5 gallon)
Size: 6.3 cm (2.5 in)
Food: Flakes, pellets, live (brine shrimp, mosquito larvae), freeze-dried, frozen
Breeding
Sexing: These fish can be sexed by looking for a gonopodium. A gonopodium is what the males use to inseminate the females.
To get best breeding results it is recommended you keep a ratio of 2 to 3 females to 1 male. To improve breeding chases the fish can be fed live food. When a female is pregnant she will bulge up like a balloon. Do a minimum 25% water change every week. To guarantee a high fry survival rate the female can be placed in a fry/birth net (or separate fry/birth tank) and then removed after all the fry have been delivered. Don't worry if you don't manage to remove her straight away because the hormones in her body will prevent her from eating anything for half a day.
